Tribute to Mark Gasser
Mark Gasser will not be known personally to every member of our club but via his business, Off Road MDG, he became our club sponsor back in 2002 and has been our one and only sponsor since that time.

It is fair to say that if it had not been for Mark’s offer to sponsor and support our club back in 2002, it would not be the club it is today, indeed the club may not have existed at all! The sponsorship from Mark’s business over the years has enabled our club to provide both the website as you know it today and has contributed to the numerous events enjoyed by one and all. I would formally like to thank Mark for his very generous support of J33P for the past 7 years, it has been much appreciated by every single member of the club. On many occasions Mark provided event arrangements such as barbeques and competition prizes over and above any formal sponsorship, all of which has helped to make the club you all know today.

Whether or not your Jeep has been to Mark’s workshop for attention, you have ordered parts from Mark, asked for and gained his advice or indeed never had any direct involvement, his influence upon modified Jeeps in the UK has been significant. The range of modifications that can and have been made to Jeeps by Mark has had an impact upon a much wider number of vehicles out there today than just those he worked on personally. Over the years Mark has built some very exotic and interesting vehicles, not least of which is heavily modified Commanche he was seen driving on many occasions around Portsmouth and to events as far apart as Jeepfest, West Harptree and closer to home along the south coast. Long Arms conversion kits to increase articulation and Brake Disc conversions added to Wranglers are but 2 of the numerous modifications undertaken by Mark over the years. Mark’s pioneering approach has extended the envelope on what is possible to build and achieve with a Jeep.

Mark has always had a keen interest and involvement with the latest developments in the US, often being the first to bring these to the UK market. In recent years Mark enjoyed a successful collaboration with Lee Hurley of Hesco bringing engine development to the UK.

Mark has always been someone to turn to not only for work or parts but also for advice and support. It was not uncommon for him to open up the garage especially to help someone out in their hour of need either just before or after an event – I can think of several who were able to drive home because of this!

Mark’s sudden death has been a very considerable shock to everyone. Our thoughts in particular are with Mark’s wife Helena, his sisters Bev and Kerry and his wider circle of family and friends who are still coming to terms with their very sudden and unexpected loss. On behalf of the J33P committee and everyone of our wider membership, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to Helena and all of Mark’s family and friends who I know will miss him greatly.
