Clyro Court, April 2010

Words by Ceri Talyor, photos by Ivan Morley and Phil Dodds

Myself and Geoff set off on Friday to lay the site out, we managed to get 20 punches in the lower woods with 6 coloured tennis balls to find and 16 punches in the upper woods with 6 coloured tennis balls to find. My maths let me down and in the brief I mentioned there were 12 punches in the top wood but the Dutch guys were the ones who pointed out there may be more, fair play to them for dedication and finding more punches than intended!!

The weather was great on Saturday, some of the tracks were slippery after the rain a week before but by Sunday it had dried out. The river bed was driven by lots of people up on Saturday and down on Sunday. Most made it up with only two winches over the rock edges which are made up of a 5 foot wall of rock. The river bed always seems to be a popular place for the Jeeps as they do well at rock crawling with the lockers etc.

We spotted several convoys were people had got together at the brief and headed off for a drive around, Clyro is great for some steep lanes, it consists of many twisty tracks which will test most people. The main route through the site is easily passable but for the adventurous you can turn off and pick your way through the turns. The top woods are easier to get around, not so steep but the top of the site has some nice deep bomb holes were we couldn't resist laying out the odd punch!! A local group of guys from Breacon had a go at driving down the gully, mostly winching down the hill on their side, they seemed to love it and all three of them sent their motors down, it made interesting watching that's for sure.

The campsite was full offroaders which made the night time chit chat fun, plenty of beer drunk under the stars. As always the members made the weekend with their good spirit and friendly approach to a decent weekend of offroading. There were some non Jeeps in attendance including my series three and a few Landrover/Range Rover hybrids, its good for Landrovers to attend, it gives the Jeepers ideas as to what they should modify next!!! Hee hee.

All in all one of the best weekends off roading we have had and was chuffed to bits that the numbers were up and people travelled so far to come to J33P events, some travelled in excess of 1000 miles each way and had a great time, keep coming along to these events and we can keep supplying them.
